Fun Halloween Decorations

We almost weren't going to do anything this Halloween until I saw the tree hanging ghosts on sale today at a local drug store. Just hang them in a tree and that's it, but they are pretty cute. They sway back and forth in the wind. Kona will be dressed as Superdog.

Two ghosts, one skeleton and a wasp trap.
Ghosts in the wind...
I think this skeleton is missing the torso.
Kona is spooked out...
We can still put some window decorations from last year. That would look good in addition to these tree decorations.

Sweet Olive Tree

When we moved to this house, I planted a sweet olive tree in the backyard. It was a baby shrub then, but it has grown to be a decent tree now. It starts to smell just when there is a bit of chill in the air. And you can smell it blocks away.
The flowers look a bit like popcorn!
Kind of hard to see...but it's about 7 feet tall now.
"Smells good out here, Mommy!"

I cut a small branch off and brought it inside the house. It smells great in here now.

Visit from a Little Birdie

It's starting to feel like fall out there. The leaves on our dogwood are starting to change, and we're seeing more birds looking for berries and insects.

I think this one is some sort of woodpecker. Looking for ants or something? All the pecking wouldn't give you a headache?

Our dogwood is turning orange and yellow.
Feels like fall...

Hummingbird Sightings!

I finally refilled our hummingbird feeder, and boy, there were some thirsty hummingbirds out there! A couple of hummingbirds keep coming back every minute, and they keep the other one from getting close to the feeder! Hey, now, there's enough nectar to go around!

A Little Visitor

I found this guy sitting on a piece of okra leaf this morning. How cute! He was being real still while I took a bunch of pictures.

He found just the right spot for his size.
White with very faint green on his back.
"I can see you!"
"Backyard is full of surprises."

Mid Summer Tomatoes

Someone has been eating my tomatoes! And they go for the ones that I've been waiting to get ripen. I have to start picking them just before they get red now.

Beautiful tomato devoured!
Nooooo!
"Mommy is upset!"
Okra is doing well.

Let's Cut Mr. Stripey

This is how it looks inside the Mr. Stripey tomato. It tasted sweet, almost fruit-like, and it didn't have that tomatoey tanginess. I really liked the flavor. Combine with other tomatoes that are tangier. Makes a great salad plate!

With Huskey Red Cherry tomatoes

The tomatoes have red edges around but mainly bright yellow inside. They are pretty on the plate by themselves.
