Bathroom Accessories Added

We've been adding some bathroom accessories one by one. Since our wall in the bathroom has a sliding door in it, we can't hang a towel bar across the wall. We instead opted for swivel towel bars. There is just enough space there to hang them without messing with the sliding door.

Swivel towel bars. I never know how sturdy these things are.

We also got a small canvas print of orchids on the wall. Again, we had to make sure the nail wouldn't stick out too much on the other side to reach the sliding door. What a pain! But it looks really nice with that pop of color in there.

A nice pop of color. I've always liked orchids.
We've had this faux coral for awhile.
Not sure if we're keeping it here, for now, it stays.

Another major thing we got yesterday was the bath rugs. Now, we don't know if we're completely in love with these, but they feel pretty comfortable on our feet, and they are super absorbent.

High pile, plushy, almost shaggy. We'll see if we grow to like them over time.

We started moving our bathroom essentials from the other bathroom, and the room is starting to look more cozy and useable.

Toilet tank top organizer. I wish it was 1/4 inch narrower, but it does the job.
I found this wonderful wall hanging hairdryer hanger. A great space saver!

Teak Stool for Bathtub

So we finished the bath renovation, but the bathtub is quite deep for me, and I had to get something to step into it. Even my hubby who is 6'2" has to stand on his toes to step in. What the...?

Made of pretty heavy teak.
It has a rubber bottom so it doesn't slip.

We have also put a coating of grout/tile sealer so they will stay clean for a long time. Our contractor didn't say we had to do this, but after doing some research, we decided for a coat.

Grout sealer

It takes about 48 hours for the sealer to cure, so we still haven't tried our bathroom yet. Maybe tomorrow and let y'all know how it is.

Lots of grout to cover between those little tiles...

We still don't have a towel holder since there is no stud in the wall to screw it on. We are looking around the solution for this.

Another coat of spackle is needed before painting this patch.
This strip on the shower glass door is chipped. They are going to replace it.
Still needs a threshold.

We still have a few things before it's completely finished. Let's get this done already!

Bathroom Renovation Final Day

Our bathroom is renewed! Done! Finished! Overall, I'm happy with it. I have to say that looking at the design on the paper/computer is never quite the same when it's actually put together. This is why my anxiety has been quite high throughout the construction, and I had the hardest time trusting our design choices.

Sliding glass door was installed today.
They said drilling holes into the tiles was hard!
That's a pretty cozy corner...
I like the glass tile accent on the wall.
We finally have enough room to dry ourselves off without bumping into anything.
New sliding door to the bathroom.
I could see myself searching for a door knob in the middle of the night....

In the end, though, the bathroom looks 100 times better than what it used to be. We have more room to dry ourselves off, and we don't have to stand on crooked and jagged tiles in the shower anymore. Every little thing in there is exactly what we picked. Seeing those items put together in front of my eyes was really satisfying and scary at the same time.

I love the goose neck.

These glass shelves were made for the inside the shower, but we decided we'd have more use of them outside the shower next to the vanity. Turned out they looked just fine outside the shower.

Love the floor.

Over time, even these things will get outdated and worn out, and we'd find them to be unpractical. And we'd go through this process all over again.

When you open the sliding door, this is what you see.
Our contractor told us that we couldn't hang a towel holder on the wall because of the sliding door in the wall. No towels in the bathroom?? Then I thought of a vertical swivel towel bars. There's just enough room for that. I'll post it when we get it.

Empty wall.
Would have been a perfect place for a towel holder....

This project is one of our first major projects for this house, and I must say, we have survived it ok. Even if it's not perfect.

Bathroom Renovation Day 18

I almost lost track of how many days we're into this project. Day 18, it is. So they said they'd finish it today. We'll see.

Cabinets and stuff have been installed.
I asked them to move up the light a few inches.
I'm glad I did, it looks better. Ahh...

I guess I need to repaint this patch. But I am pretty good at painting at this point. I don't mind it. I'm so much happier that we have the light moved in the right place.
We have dimmers!

Dimmers were on our must-list because we didn't want to go to the bathroom at night with blinding light. Yes, everyone needs a dimmer when they get older.

Power outlet, sideways...

We originally wanted a bigger power outlet, but there was just no space for it. We even had to move up the cabinet a bit so there was enough room for this plate. It is indeed a small room...

They had to cut out a little hole to insert the drain pipe. But the drawer still works, so I'm ok with that. There's still room for cleaners and such in there. Sometimes, using new vanities in old house can pause challenges like this.

The drain pipe was so old, it crumbled when they tried to tighten.

I'm glad that they have found the old crumbling drain pipe at this point, since I don't want to be the one to be left with a water disaster in the middle of the night. I'm hoping that we don't have to replace the entire pipes anytime soon. We have to see about that.

Glass doors are in.
This is where you go into the tub. Seems small.
Are we going to fit there ok?
Looks really pretty. I hope it's practical as well.

They couldn't quite finish it today. The vanity gave them unexpected extra work because of the old water pipes, and putting up these glass doors was apparently quite challenging. One of their power drills was fried because these ceramic tiles are very hard. (And they had to make nine holes!) They sure did a wonderful job, though.

This is how it looks at the end of today. It's all coming together.
