Yorkshire Pudding

With lamb stew...

Ever since I came across a picture of Yorkshire pudding on the Internet, I've been wanting to eat one or make one. So when I saw a box of Yorkshire pudding mix at a little British store in town, I was ecstatic! What makes those little rolls to invert in the middle? How cute are those little rolls! Those Brits did it right!

Melted butter and the pudding mix

I made lamb stew earlier just for these little rolls. Traditionally, you eat them with prime rib, but lamb stew was delicious with them. The little hole holds warm stew, soaking up the goodness while the raised edge of the Yorkshire pudding remains flaky.

A hearty warm meal for a cold evening

Since I didn't have the beef drippings like the traditional recipe called for, I used a teaspoon of melted butter in each muffin cup, and they turned out beautifully. Maybe I'll try making them from the scratch next time.

The edges are raised and the center is buttery.
The Brits call them puds.

A box of this mix makes 12 little puds. Make a big pot of stew to go with them!

New Favorite Hangout

They can make your favorite drink and get it right!
This one has Jameson, St. Germain and orange bitters. Yum.

One of our new favorite hangouts in town is hidden in the back of a popular restaurant. There is no sign, you just have to know it's there, which makes it even more like a hidden treasure. We only tell about this place to close friends because I don't want this place to get too crowded! They make good drinks and the food is excellent. Such a good place for people who are not all that into the "to see and to be seen" socials. But I can say that we had a celebrity sighting here, too.

Chow Mein Rolls

Eat with plenty of vegetables.

When I'm craving bread and noodles, I don't go under great mental anguish trying to avoid them but just enjoy them. A lot of people are on the low carb diet. I know I have to ask myself hard before eating carbs if I really want them. Don't be so hard on yourself! If you have a carb attack, have some fiber with it. It will slow down the insulin spike which is the negative effect of eating carbs. Use whole grains, add vegetables, eat in moderation. That way, you don't feel deprived. That's the ticket!

Spicy edamame and cabbage slaw

I had leftover Chinese chow mein in the fridge, so I made a chow mein roll. Carbs wrapped by carbs. A carb lover's dream!! Don't forget to eat your veges first to help slow down the insulin spike!

Spicy Edamame And Cabbage Slaw

1 cup cabbage, shredded
2 Tbsp cilantro, chopped
2 Tbsp green onion, chopped
1/3 cup edamame
2 Tbsp seasoned rice wine vinegar
1/2 tsp sesame chili oil
Dash Japanese chili pepper, optional
In a bowl, combine all of the ingredients and mix well. Chill in the fridge for an hour so all the flavors are married.

I'm on the iPhone Bandwagon

Hello, iPhone. Pleased to make your acquaintance.

My beloved cell phone has expired on me. I've resisted the switch as long as I could, but it seems like the time has come to accept the change. I am on the iPhone wagon. The FedEx guy who delivered it asked me if I knew what it was, I said, "an iPhone," and he looked more excited than I was. I think over time, I will be in love with it. I am still in kind of like mourning for my old cell phone. I am an old fashioned girl who likes to punch in numbers instead of gently touching the screen. It was a free upgrade, so I didn't pay anything for my iPhone. But I can't see myself texting and browsing on the phone much. Maybe that'll change.

Sayonara, Razor!
