Sparkling Strawberry Basil Lemonade

Why not make your lemonade extraordinary by adding seasonal fruits? If you have strawberries lying around in the fridge, macerate them and add to your lemonade. Muddle a few leaves of basil in the glass to infuse that wonderful summer flavor.

Great on a warm summer afternoon
Mashing the macerated strawberries

Sparkling Strawberry Basil Lemonade
(makes a few glasses)

1/2 cup strawberry cut bite sizes
1/2 cup sugar
1 lemon
A few sprigs of basil
Seltzer water

Macerate the strawberries in sugar for at least 45 minutes until the natural juice comes out. Mash them with a muddler. Toss a few basil leaves in a glass and bruise them with a muddler. Add 2 Tbsp of strawberry mixture and 1 Tbsp lemon juice to the glass. Pour in about 1 cup of seltzer water. Stir. Garnish with a lemon slice and a sprig of fresh basil. I recommend using a big fat straw for this. My regular straw got clogged up before I could sip anything! You can add a shot of vodka for the alcoholic version.
