Korean Rice Wine Makkoli

Makkoli, also spelled Makgeolli, is a delicious Korean rice wine. It's slightly bubbly and creamy white almost like milk. The alcohol content is about 6 %, which is a lot weaker than Japanese sake: I find it easier to drink. There are many ways to kick up the original Makkoli by adding different flavors and mixing with other liquors. But I like drinking it straight up and chilled.

Shake it before serving.
Slight effervescence is refreshing.

You can taste the natural sweetness of the rice, but not sweet like refined sugar. The next time you go to a Korean restaurant, try Mokkoli in a clay pot. They will serve it to you in a small clay cup. It's a fun and tasty way to enjoy your meal.

This one looks like a ceramic bowl.
